Piscine du Lignon
An indoor swimming-pool, an Olympic-size pool and quasi-Olympic paddling pools for the toddlers: the Lignon infrastructure has it all! Life is sweet in the leisure centre, where you can show off your diving skills on the 3-metre boards, jump in the sand of the beach-volley courts, play table tennis or mini-golf, race down the slides or have a bite to eat at the restaurant, while the site's gossamer roof structure of glass and metal – the nerve centre of the site – snatches the blissful swimmers who swim in its reflection.

Salle des Fêtes du Lignon (Vernier)
The cultural and architectural block that forms the gigantic Lignon towers emerged from the ground between 1963 and 1971. Forty years after its construction, the remarkable Cité finally exerted such a fascination that the City of Geneva decided to rightfully list it as a monument. And where some thought that the weight of the towers would crush the spirit of its inhabitants, quite the opposite happened: life in the Lignon towers thrived. And none more so than in the Lignon Community Hall – a vast space of wood and light built in the '60s. On the parquet, many couples fell in love... And if the stage is rather modest, it only serves to underline the warmth and solidarity of the area's population.

Les Avanchets
Named after the river that runs along it, the Cité des Avanchets has not always led a quiet and peaceful life. Built between 1971 and 1977, the seven quirky and uneven low-rises were a shock at first. The buildings symbolised the wonderful diversity that developed there and the melting pot of nationalities that came together. Nowadays, although the Cité is closed-in, many facilities make up for that: football fields, active community centres, and even a TV station. Encouraged by the city of Geneva, the inhabitants engage in participatory democracy, and bring their suggestions to improve their own environment, in a brilliant example of diversity and dialogue.
